Selank structure and research use
Selank has the sequence Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro. The first four residues are tuftsin, a fragment of the immunoglobulin G heavy chain, and the Pro-Gly-Pro tail was added to slow enzymatic breakdown. In the laboratory it is used in hippocampal and cortical cell models for work on GABAergic signalling, cytokine expression and neurotrophic factor endpoints.
