KPV is the C-terminal tripeptide fragment of alpha-MSH (Lys-Pro-Val). It is used in intestinal epithelial and macrophage culture to study cytokine expression, barrier integrity and melanocortin signalling, and NuVion stocks it in Australia as a 10mg lyophilised vial.
- C-terminal tripeptide fragment of alpha-MSH (Lys-Pro-Val)
- Used in intestinal epithelial and macrophage culture models
- Applied in cytokine expression and barrier integrity assays
- Supplied lyophilised, purity by RP-HPLC and identity by mass spectrometry
KPV structure and research use
KPV is residues 11 to 13 of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone, the last three amino acids of the 13 amino acid parent. At three residues it is one of the smallest peptides in the range. In the laboratory it is used in intestinal epithelial and macrophage models for work on cytokine transcription, barrier integrity and melanocortin signalling. It is also the fourth peptide in the KLOW blend.
KPV research applications
- NF-kB luciferase reporter assays in epithelial cell lines stimulated with TNF-alpha or IL-1beta, with and without KPV
- Nuclear translocation of p65 followed by immunofluorescence, live imaging of tagged p65 or Western blots of cell fractions
- IL-8, IL-6 and TNF-alpha secretion by ELISA and MAP kinase phosphorylation blots in Caco-2, HT-29 and Jurkat cells
- PepT1 transport studies using glycyl-sarcosine competition, pH dependence and siRNA knockdown in transporter-expressing cell lines
